What Hound does with it
- Goal: a teaser of about 60 seconds, made only of their best lines, that makes someone want the full video. This cuts the video itself: if they have not said this project is for the teaser, ask before you cut anything.
- Read the whole transcript and pick four to eight lines that stand alone: the promise of the video, a surprising point, a number, a strong opinion, and one line that makes the viewer want the rest.
- Keep each line whole, from the start of its sentence to its end. Open with a copy of the strongest one; the others stay in the order they were said.
- Cut everything else, then take the long pauses and the fillers out of what is left.
- Check the length: 45 to 75 seconds. If it runs long, drop the weakest line, never part of a sentence.
- Put the strongest line on screen as a punch line. Keep their clips and cards only where they still sit on the lines they belong to.
- Check: read the teaser's transcript from top to bottom. It makes sense to someone who has not seen the video, and every sentence ends where they ended it.
- Say which lines you kept, how long it is, and which line you would swap in for a different angle.
