What Hound does with it

  1. Goal: no stretch of more than about 20 seconds where the viewer sees only them talking, the way edited talks keep the picture moving, and nothing on screen that they did not say.
  2. List every stretch of more than 20 seconds with nothing on screen but them.
  3. For each stretch, read its words again and pick the best true thing it holds: one of their clips that shows what they say, a slide they refer to, a list where they name things, a number as a stat, or one line as a punch line.
  4. Where the stretch has a cut, lay what you add across it, so the join happens while the card or the clip is up.
  5. A stretch with nothing true to show stays bare. Never invent words, and never use a clip that does not fit the line.
  6. Check: see each new piece at its start, middle and end, five or six to a sheet. Nothing sits over their face or hands, and the bare speaker never flashes for a moment between two pieces.
  7. Say how many stretches you covered and with what, and which ones you left bare, with the lines you weighed there.
