As shotDocumentary

One frame of a real talk, as shot and with a punch line drawn by the editor in Documentary: Inter Bold, with the stressed words set in Instrument Serif italic and coloured with the accent, lightened to 50% so they read over the picture. Slide to compare. Every word on it was said in the talk.

When to use it

Use it on a video that leans on your own clips: how something was built, a client's project told over the footage of it, an event or a trip you filmed. Labels are set as plain type in a darkened corner rather than in a pill, and a list sits on a soft dark scrim rather than a panel, so the picture underneath stays the subject. Full cards cut in on a dark brown ground, and the words over your video are a warm white rather than a pure one, which sits gently on warm footage.

Who it suits

It suits a creator whose archive is the strength of the channel, with a lot of footage of the work itself, and who wants a story to look made rather than recorded. The gold of its accent and the brown of its cards are warm, so a warm grade such as Warm studio or Soft evening keeps the cards and the picture at the same temperature.

What it changes

Documentary starts from Clean and sets its colours, how its cards are built, how fast words come up and how its words sit over your video. Whatever it leaves alone is Clean's.
